My 2010 Winter solstise celebration

30-12-2010(Thursday)

The The Dōngzhì Festival or Winter Solstice Festival had just passed few weeks ago and now I'm going share about my celebration for this chinese festive at Kuala Lumpur for the 2nd time with my friends and course mates. Usually,I will celebrate this festival with my family at Sabah...well..since Im studying at KL now,I cant get to eat my mom's cooking..T_T

Before I start to share my celebration with you guys,I would like to share with guys the information about this festival..

The Dōngzhì Festival or Winter Solstice Festival ( 冬至)is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the chinese and other east asians during the (winter solstice) on or around December 22 when sunshine is weakest and daylight shortest.

Traditionally, the Dongzhi Festival is also a time for the family to get together. One activity that occurs during these get together is the making and eating of Tang yuan (湯圓) or balls of glutinuous rice, which symbolize reunion. Tangyuan are made of glutinuous rice flour and sometimes brightly coloured. Each family member receives at least one large Tang Yuan in addition to several small ones. The flour balls may be plain or stuffed. They are cooked in a sweet soup or savoury broth with both the ball and the soup/broth served in one bowl.

The festive food is also a reminder that we are now a year older and should behave better in the coming year. Even today, many Chinese around the world, especially the elderly, still insist that one is "a year older" right after the Dong Zhi celebration instead of waiting for the chinese new year...XD
